چکیده
Case report A man aged 67 years was admitted to hospital in January 1971 giving a history of sudden paralysis, in his right leg, which had occurred 10 days previously; this had been followed by gradual paralysis in his left leg. He had been incontinent of urine for 3 days. Recently he had lost 2 stone in weight, and had developed pains in his right shoulder. He worked in the dockyards of Portsmouth but was not known to have handled asbestos material. He gave no history of previous chest trouble, and was a nonsmoker. He was cachectic, and neurological examination revealed signs of transection of the spinal cord at T8. The chest X-ray revealed marked thickening of the right pleura and coarse mottling of the right lower lobe. The patient's condition gradually deteriorated until his death 24 days after admission.

Sarcomatoid Malignant Mesothelioma Presenting with Intramedullary Spinal Cord Metastasis: A Case Report and Literature Review
Study Design Case report. Objective Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is an uncommon tumor of the pleural epithelium with a predilection for local spread into adjacent tissues. The sarcomatoid type accounts for ∼10% of MM cases and is associated with poorer survival than the epithelioid, desmoplastic, and biphasic types. MM commonly presents with involvement of the vertebral body or epidural space. H...
متن کاملThe Role of Immunohistochemistry Studies in Distinguishing Malignant Mesothelioma from Metastatic Lung Carcinoma in Malignant Pleural Effusion
Background and Objective: Early diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is the key point of its treatment. The main problem is the precise diagnosis of mesothelioma and its differentiation from metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. Mesothelioma exhibits complex immunohistochemical characteristics. The aim of this study was to study hybrid immunohistochemistry in the differe...

Primary malignant neoplasms of the pericardium are rare and are predominantly mesotheliomas, followed by benign localized fibrous mesothelioma, malignant fibrosarcoma, angiosarcoma and benign and malignant teratomas. 1 This article concerns an atypical presentation of this malignant tumor with symptoms and signs of pericardial effusion. This unusual feature was complete encasement of the h...
متن کاملLumbar spinal malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor arising from a benign neurofibroma
We present the case of a 27-year-old man who had a soft-tissue lumbar spine mass causing back, abdominal, and groin pain. Imaging showed the lesion filling the right neural foramen, invading the anterior L2 vertebral body and both pedicles, and protruding into the central canal, causing compression of the thecal sac. The final pathologic diagnosis was a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, ...
متن کاملSpinal cord compression: an unusual presentation of malignant pleural mesothelioma. A case report and review of the literature.
Pleural malignant mesothelioma is a locally invasive tumor that tends to progress due to direct extension of the tumor into the pulmonary parenchyma, the chest wall, the mediastinum, or the abdominal cavity via the diaphragm. In the later stages of the disease, distant metastases can occur. Metastases to the nervous system are rare, and clinical signs of nervous system involvement typically app...
